A kind act that made our day
On Father's Day, a knock on the door revealed our next-door young neighbours with a container of warm scones, two containers of jam and cream, and the message "just a little something to enjoy from your neighbours.

We hope you are all well and keeping OK in lockdown 7.0. Let us know if you need anything. Be safe, be happy, don't forget to smile."
As we are both elderly, 90 and 75-years-old, this gesture made our day!

Thank you to my 'Good Samaritan'
I wish to say a big 'thank you' to the young lady who came to my assistance when I tripped and fell on the nature strip at Bendigo Ford at Epsom.
My husband and I appreciated her kindness at the time but didn't think to ask her name.
It is reassuring to know such caring folk stop and offer help.
Fortunately I was not injured, but any fall can leave us "oldies" feeling shaken and vulnerable.

Help win the battle against COVID
It looks like I will have to stop walking with my wife.
As a nurse she works extremely hard to ensure her patients are isolated from COVID-19.
Her patients are generally older people and more vulnerable to this disease.
Walking around the lake or along the creek annoys her because we see so many people not wearing masks.
It frustrates her so much to see people taking their responsibilities so lightly.
We must do everything we can now to minimise the impact of this disease.
Wear your mask, social distance, avoid unnecessary socialisation.
Let's help our medical staff to win this battle for us.

Get to the point
Climate change/global warming does take a little time and effort to understand.
There are many words spoken about climate change, rising co2 levels, greenhouse emissions, fossil fuels, rising seas, melting ice sheets, polar bears dying of starvation, wild fires, renewables - the list goes on and on.
I often wonder if public discussion concerning the climate, particularly by our federal coalition government, could be more direct and straight-forward and easier understood by particularly concentrating and encouraging discussion on the main underlining cause of climate change, which is burning fossil fuels to create energy.
If we can eliminate deriving our energy needs by burning fossil fuels - coal, gas and oil - a huge percentage of the causes of climate change/global warming would be eliminated.
Perhaps this more simple message, coming from the federal coalition government, may motivate more Australians to take an interest in fighting and solving our climate problems as many would realise there are now a number of viable alternatives to produce energy other than burning, climate change-causing, fossil fuels.
But would Barnaby Joyce/the Nationals allow the federal coalition to openly discuss climate change in relation to burning fossil fuels, particularly in relation to coal?

Kangaroos deserve better
Let's hope Loddon Shire shows some moral ethics and vision for the region's prosperity in not allowing the proposed kangaroo processing plant.
The shooting of kangaroos at night is cruel.
Contrary to industry propaganda, these gentle native animals are not exploding in numbers, but rather being forced closer to humans through habitat loss.
Half our macropod species are already extinct. A single fire season could wipe out more.
We should be protecting the assets we are still lucky enough to have.
Studies show our unique wildlife is the number one attraction to tourists, and Loddon Shire has so much to offer nature-based tourism.
Hopefully council can see the real equation here.

Business being tested
The state government, not content with witnessing the crushing of so many businesses with its failed strategy of trying to eliminate Coronavirus, has displayed its further incompetence and lack of compassion with new rules for dining for country Victoria in the main from midnight Thursday.
The new rules provide for a maximum of 10 people inside a restaurant.
This impractical rule could only be dreamt up by bureaucrats and politicians totally insulated from the realities of life on their unaffected and fat salary packages. It is an insult for businesses to be treated in such a cavalier fashion.
It would be impossible to make money with so few numbers under this silly rule. So why bother opening.
Takings would not even cover the power bill and rent/rates in many instances, so most restaurants will remain shut until commonsense prevails and more economic rules instituted. What are restaurant owners and staff expected to live on in the interim?

A divided nation
After being hammered from pillar to post last year by the Prime Minister, federal treasurer, and the federal health minister, when Victoria had no vaccines to fight the virus, we now have been informed at least two of these same people have been involved in allocating more vaccines to NSW than they were entitled to on a per capita basis, by some 340,000 doses.
This is outrageous on two fronts.
The incompetence of the NSW premier in failing to lock down NSW soon enough endangering the whole of Australia, as well as continually mocking other states, has resulted in total silence from these Victorian ministers.
NSW has been rewarded for failure, something that was not afforded Victoria last year, in fact the exact opposite.
The NSW press conference lacks any empathy, or compassion, and emphasizes the attitude of this government by quickly " moving on" to other matters.
These are times most of us have never endured, but success will eventually prevail.
Many will not forget.
