FOR the fifth season in a row - and ninth time in the past 11 - Sandhurst has won the most games across all grades in the Bendigo Football-Netball League.
In what was an incomplete season that came to an end last week and will ultimately have no official record of it being played with there to be no recording of "minor" premiers or presenting of individual awards, the Dragons' 80 wins were the most of any club in 2021.
The Dragons' 80 victories takes in their seniors (10), reserves (9) and under-18 (8) football and A grade (10), A reserve (9), B grade (11), B reserve (12) and 17-under (11) netball teams.
"The playing group across the entire club has been fantastic and has been for a number of years now," Sandhurst president Chris Greene said this week.
"But I also think a lot of credit has to go to the coaches, especially over the past two seasons.
"The fact our coaches have been able to keep the players together and motivated through periods where the horizon has been so cloudy has been a tremendous effort."
The fact our coaches have been able to keep the players together and motivated through periods where the horizon has been so cloudy has been a tremendous effort
- Chris Greene - Sandhurst president
The Dragons' tally of 53 wins across their five netball teams narrowly edged out Kangaroo Flat's total of 51, with both clubs having all five teams qualify for finals.
Had there been a finals series go ahead the Dragons would have been one of only two clubs to have all eight of their teams represented.
The other was Gisborne, which finished second on the club ladder with 70 victories.
Gisborne and Strathfieldsaye each had the most wins on the football field with a combined 30 across their seniors, reserves and under-18s teams, but the Bulldogs had a superior average percentage of 338.4 to the Storm's 264.0.
Gisborne, Strathfieldsaye, Golden Square and Sandhurst would have had all three football teams playing had the finals series gone ahead.
