Last night the 18-year-old from Bamawm made the most of his dream by winning bronze in the Men's 100m Butterfly S10 on debut for Australia.
"It's been a hard 18 months in Victoria, it means the world to me to be up on the podium," an emotional Pearse said in his post-race interview on Tuesday night.
Moments prior to the race Pearse experienced pins and needles in his hands as well as an uncontrollable shake.
"I had to pour water on my hands to get the feeling back, it's my first Games and there's a lot of pressure. During the first 25m I didn't even feel like I was swimming," he said.
"Then in the last 25m all the work I've done with my coaches came back...it all paid off."
During the pandemic, Pearse went above and beyond to find a way to continue training in the height of lockdowns.
Growing up on a dairy farm, he made good use of the family's dam.
"Our dam on the property turned into the Pearse Aquatic Centre," he said.
"Training in a dairy dam I really didn't think I would be here," he laughed.

Herbert set for Korn Ferry Tour Finals Championship
Bendigo professional golfer Lucas Herbert is primed for the final round of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.
Herbert tees up at 2.48am on Friday morning alongside Matthias Schwab and Scott Gutschewski in the season-ending championship round.
The 25-year-old has already secured a 2021-22 PGA Tour card after a T4 performance during the first round of the KFT Finals, but if he was to secure another strong result this week it would pave the way for more tournament invites.
