BENDIGO’S Davidson Brothers have added another Golden Guitar to their growing collection.Hamish and Lachlan Davidson claimed their third Country Music Awards of Australia prize at the weekend. The brothers grew up in Yinnar, Gippsland, but now call Bendigo home.Hamish works as principal chiropractor at City Chiropractic Care and Lachlan is a mechanical engineer who designs machinery for the food industry.“We were up against some of the best musicians in Australia so it was a real thrill to get the award,” Lachlan said yesterday. The Country Music Awards of Australia were held at Tamworth’s Regional Entertainment Centre and showcased performances by Adam Harvey, Troy Cassar-Daley and Beccy Cole. The event marked the culmination of the 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival.About 50,000 music fans visited the regional NSW centre over the course of the 10-day event.“The numbers were really up on the first weekend because all the Queenslanders were able to get through this year without the floods,” Lachlan said. “This year was the 40th Country Music Awards of Australia so the awards show was a very special event.”Both Lachlan and Hamish are graduates of the Australian Country Music College and have built a reputation as two of Australia’s hottest bluegrass exponents. They have two previous Australian Country Music Awards (2009 and 2010) to their credit and founded the Australian Youth Bluegrass Scholarship in 2011.They were awarded their latest Golden Guitar for OMFG in the Fender Instrumental of the Year awards category. They were also a finalist in the Group/Duo section with Write Me a Letter. The Davidson Brothers have toured extensively in Australia and overseas and regularly perform live on TV. They have toured with Troy Cassar-Daley, Lee Kernaghan and shared the stage with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, Kasey Chambers and Jimmy Barnes.“I guess we’re looking at going overseas again this year, we were in Europe last year,” Lachlan said. “And we’ll be heading back into the studio in the next few months.”Keith Urban and Beccy Cole were the big winners at the Country Music Awards of Australia, each taking home two Golden Guitars.Adam Harvey secured the night’s most prestigious award, Album of the Year, for Falling into Place.
