The new Goornong Station is targeted for completion by the end of the year, with Huntly to follow in mid-2022.
"These regional major transport infrastructure projects are an absolutely vital part of our efforts to rebuild our economy," Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan said.
"We thank locals for their patience as we get on with these vital works - that will enable trains to travel at faster speeds between Epsom and the new Goornong Station."
Track upgrades on the Echuca Line will enable trains to travel at faster speeds between Epsom and the new Goornong Station.
The works include replacing more than 20,000 sleepers, new ballast, drainage improvements, rail bridge upgrades, mud-hole removal and level crossing modifications to boost safety and will enable trains to travel at up to 130km/h, up from the 80km/h they travel currently.
Coaches will replace Echuca Line trains between Bendigo and Echuca from September 1 until October 31.
Trains will still run between Bendigo and Epsom for local passengers.
Students in the Greater Bendigo region will again have the chance to pitch their ideas on the future of public transport in regional Victoria as part of the Regional Rail Revival Design Challenge 2050 competition.
A team-based competition for students from years 4 to 10, the Design Challenge encourages students to develop innovative design ideas for the future of rail travel in response to the question: What does the smart and connected city of 2050 look like?
The winners of the inaugural challenge in 2020 - a group of students in years seven and eight from Bendigo South East College - pitched the concept of using augmented reality to educate train travellers about the indigenous and historical landmarks on their train journey.

"I'm excited to see the Design Challenge competition expand this year providing more students across regional Victoria the chance to participate, and I hope to see another Bendigo school follow our winners from Bendigo South East College," Ms Allan said.
Schools are asked to register teams in term three and and the competition takes place throughout term four and will be exclusively online.
Registrations are now open, with more information available at regionalrailrevival.vic.gov.au/designchallenge2050
