To link in with this year's theme "food: different by design", students from each grade learnt about how how their food is packaged and manufactured, how bees live and what improvements they can make to help them live longer.
"Along with that we're doing a nude food week and across the whole college, we're tallying up the amount of rubbish each class brings to school," VCC foundation to grade four curriculum innovations teacher Dan Osment said.
"On Wednesday, we did a STEM emersion day and we were able to get one of our teachers to make videos on how he keeps bees to show the students.
"So from that, he pitched some ideas to each cohort of what he wanted them to design and make to help him continue to keep his bees safe."
Mr Osment said each class enjoyed putting coming up with their ideas and bringing them to life.
Other stories:
"The grade one and two kids were asked to make a bee hive and were told they had to include a base, door, box and a lid that would open.
"The grade three and four students had the same task but they could only use cardboard, just for a bit more of a challenge."
Mr Osment said it was important for students to know science is more than just space and places they can't reach.
"Science can be a lot about problem solving and by doing these types of activities, the students are learning how to help solve real world problems that could affect them," he said.
"It's also encouraging them to consider careers in STEM industries, girls in particular now more than ever."
