In an effort to get one million vaccines into arms across Victoria, a handful of Bendigo pharmacies are opening walk-in and appointments for the AstraZeneca jab.
Emily Roberts Pharmacy is one outlet now offering the jab and owner Emily Roberts is thrilled to be able to start welcoming people in.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We've had a lot of inquiries and they've been around are we or aren't we offering vaccinations at this point," the pharmacist said.
"I'm looking forward to discussions around the vaccination and getting vaccines out there.
"This is a way we can further support our local community and it gives us all another option to increase vaccination uptake."
Ms Roberts said the roll-out will differ from pharmacy to pharmacy, but all will work towards the million goal.
"I think it's great to have an aspirational target," she said.
"Most pharmacies will receive up to 600 doses and our first week administering this is next week.
"Some pharmacies will allow walk-ins and this will break down the barrier that online bookings can cause some people."
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the best time to get a vaccine is now.
"There are a million things that we miss about life before the pandemic - and each of those is a reason to get vaccinated," he said.
"Victorians have shown us that they are ready and willing to come forward and get vaccinated, with over 98,000 doses administered in our state-run system since Monday and more than 10,000 more doses of AstraZeneca than the week before.
"This is all about making sure that we get jabs in arms and that we, all of us, play our part in getting to the other side of this."
