Sigley, who had been living with Alzheimer's disease for a number of years, died peacefully on Sunday, according to a family statement.
Known widely as the 'little Aussie battler', Sigley received 21 Logie Awards, and was awarded the Gold Logie in 1975 for most popular personality on Australian television.
In the 1970s, he began his long-term partnership with Denise Drysdale in The Ernie Sigley Show, before becoming the Wheel of Fortune's first host in the 80s.
He hosted a range of shows on TV after his eponymous show finished in 1976 - from Saturday Night Live to Wheel of Fortune and the morning program In Melbourne Today.
His final stint in media came on radio, where he hosted the top-rating afternoon program on 3AW from 1996 until he pulled the plug on his career in 2008.
