Martin Prouse, 45, was released on bail on Monday into an alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation program in Melbourne.
Magistrate Patrick Southey told Mr Prouse that he was still quite young, possibly only halfway through his life. He said his treatment at a rehabilitation centre might break the cycle of prior convictions for burglary.
Mr Southey said the reason for bail was that the prosecution did not actively oppose it, treatment was available for Mr Prouse, and the delay had become "intolerable".
A prosecutor said DNA analysis would take at least three months.
Mr Prouse was granted bail on the condition he not contact witnesses for the prosecution, not leave Victoria, and maintain a curfew of 10pm to 5am unless in the company of a staff member from the residential rehabilitation program.
Police have alleged that Mr Prouse went to a Strathdale plumbing business on January 15 this year.
A court heard in February that Mr Prouse allegedly smashed a toilet window to gain entry, causing damage worth about $2000. He was also accused of smashing a lock on the business's safe and stealing $17,400 in cash.
Police alleged Mr Prouse then forced his way into a farm supplies store in Quarry Hill on January 22.
The court also heard Mr Prouse allegedly forced his way into the Bendigo Pottery site the next day.
It then heard then on January 31 Mr Prouse allegedly broke into a Golden Square paint factory.
Police alleged he cut cables to the internet and CCTV cameras, and then stole three sanders, a $1500 laptop, and collectable $1 and $2 coins worth $300.
Mr Prouse is due to return to the Bendigo Magistrates' Court in November.
