The Department of Justice and Community Safety has confirmed an incident took place on Wednesday evening at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre.

A spokesperson for the department said Victoria Police were notified.

"An incident occurred between two young people at Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct on Wednesday, August 4 at around 8.30pm," the spokesperson said.
"One young person was assessed by onsite health services for a superficial small cut to the face.
"The incident was contained quickly, and Victoria Police was notified."
The spokesperson said the Department of Justice and Community Safety took the security of Youth Justice centres extremely seriously and "violence (was) is not tolerated".
The incident did not involve any staff members.

Last week, a Community and Public Sector Union Victoria spokesperson said staff was becoming increasingly worried about its safety and wellbeing.
It came after a staff member was treated for upper body injuries, and taken to hospital in a stable condition after being attacked.
WorkSafe confirmed officials visited the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre on Monday, July 26.
