The WGC event at TPC Southwind, Memphis features a 66-strong field of the world's best players with top prize money and 550 FedEx points to the winner.
The co-sanctioned PGA and European Tour event includes a field with the world's top-50 golfers in addition to an array of other players with entry exemptions.
Among the contenders is defending champion Justin Thomas, current FedEx Cup leader and 2021 Open Championship winner Collin Morikawa, Australians Cam Davis, Cam Smith, Brad Kennedy, Min Woo Lee, Marc Leishman, Wade Ormsby and Adam Scott.
The par 70 course at TPC Southwind can play as long as 7,233 yards and features close to 100 bunkers, 10 water hazards and undulating fairways.
Herbert finished T49 (even-par) in the tournament last year and will be eager to improve on the back of a recent purple patch which included a win at the Irish Open and a T4 at the Scottish Open.
He will aim for a top finish to secure a PGA Tour card for 2022 or a strong result that will lock in more event starts in the USA for the remainder of the season.
Herbert is currently ranked 49th in the world and is 15th on the Race to Dubai standings.
