Flaherty's two-year deal with the Roos expires at the end of this season.
After missing the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the former Rochester coach has done a good job rebuilding the Roos program with a senior group predominantly made up of players aged 21 years and under.
"We're working through the process, but nothing has been decided yet,'' Flaherty said.
"In terms of the group and what we're trying to achieve it would be hard to walk away.
"Life is getting busier for myself in terms of work and family, so we'll work through a few options."
The Roos have won two games so far in 2021 and, with the games to come against Maryborough, Castlemaine, South Bendigo and Kyneton, could easily finish the year with four victories.
That would match their win totals in 2017, 18 and 19 - a fine effort considering the youthful list and the fact the club has spent significantly less this year on its player payments.
"It's different to what I was used to at Rochester, but it is an upbeat group and they're very tight,'' Flaherty said.
"When they do have a big loss they forget about it quickly and keep working on the good stuff.
"It's about gaining the right people into the club in terms of recruiting.
"We want people who want to commit to Kangaroo Flat and support the group we have. We need some physicality and some depth."
Flaherty hasn't been shy in his desire to expose his young side to the best teams in the BFNL because of the value it provides in their learning process.
The most recent lockdown meant the Roos missed a tough section of their fixture and they're now left with a month of footy where they have every chance to finish the season on a successful note.
"It hasn't panned out too badly for us,'' Flaherty said.
"We have Maryborough, Castlemaine, South Bendigo and Kyneton, so there's opportunities for us there.
"It's a good four-week block for a young group that really wants to play some footy.
"We trained last Thursday and everyone was really positive about what we can achieve in the last month of footy.
"Saying it and doing it is a different story, I suppose."
Flat's most recent two matches were heavy losses to Eaglehawk and Gisborne and Flaherty is keen to right the wrongs of those efforts - particularly the home game against the Hawks.
"We were really frustrated against Eaglehawk at home because we thought we want backwards,'' he said.
"Generally, against good opposition we produce at least a quarter where we're really happy with the way we play.
"That game we didn't do that, which was really frustrating. With a young group that can happen, but we need to work on that."
The break has eased the Roos' injury list and they'll have a full squad to pick from for this week's home game against Maryborough.
"Two or three weeks off has enabled some injured players to get back and play,'' Flaherty said.
"At this stage we'll be as full as we can be and the reserves have good numbers as well.
"We'll probably have a few players miss out."
