Cody Patterson, 26, made the application in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Friday after he was charged with burglary and theft offences.
Police alleged sometime on April 3 or April 4, Mr Patterson broke into a Bendigo bus company and stole seven sets of keys.
He also allegedly entered one of the buses and drove off.

Police found the vehicle in Spring Gully bushland on April 5. Mr Patterson's fingerprints were allegedly located inside the bus.
Police alleged Mr Patterson also broke into the Bendigo Pony Club sometime between April 11 and April 26.
The court heard he allegedly rifled through draws before stealing bags of lollies. Mr Patterson's finger prints were again allegedly found at the club.
He was arrested on July 9 after he allegedly broke into a business on Stanley Street in Bendigo.
Police alleged Mr Patterson smashed the window of a Renault van before breaking into a Volkswagen and taking a number of power tools that were valued at $2000.
Mr Patterson is also facing another charge of theft of a motor vehicle, after he allegedly broke into an unlocked Holden ute in Diggers Rest in March last year.
The police prosecutor told the court Mr Patterson should not be granted bail as he was an unacceptable risk of reoffending and endangering the community.
Defence lawyer Luke Docherty told the court while Mr Patterson had previously served a lengthy jail term, the 26-year-old had received no support in the community.
Mr Docherty said his client had been deemed suitable for the Court Integrated Services Program, which would help him if he was released on bail.
The defence lawyer said Mr Patterson also had a stable address available and the support of his family.
But Magistrate Ross Betts said he was not satisfied that the risk could be reduced through a program like CISP.
Mr Betts refused the bail application and Mr Patterson was remanded in custody. He is due to return to the Bendigo Magistrates' Court in September.
