Strauch swam a time of 2:24.25 in Thursday's 200m breaststroke semi-final to be ranked ninth.
She was just 0.52 of a second behind the eighth-ranked swimmer and a berth in Friday's final.
While Strauch would be disappointed not to qualify for the final, the 24-year-old should be proud of what she's achieved.
At the most recent world championships, Strauch finished 14th overall in the 200m breaststroke. She leaves Tokyo ranked ninth.
Strauch qualified for the semi-finals after finishing third in her heat on Wednesday night in a time of 2:23.30.
