MARONG has wasted no time in ensuring boom mid-season recruit Brandyn Grenfell will play on with the Panthers again in the Loddon Valley league next year.
Grenfell joined the Panthers last month and despite having played only four games so far sits fourth on the league goalkicking with 34 - 10 against Inglewood on debut, 12 against Newbridge, five against Maiden Gully YCW and seven against Pyramid Hill.
"It's very pleasing for the club to have Brandyn re-sign for next year. He has been able to have a big impact so far and he's going to be an important cog for us going forward," Marong coach Linton Jacobs said at the weekend.
"The boys are all really enjoying his company and he's enjoying playing footy with the group. Marong is a good place to be playing footy at the moment and, hopefully, all the boys will want to stick around."
Alongside fellow 2021 recruits Kain Robins (44 goals) and Adrian Pappin (18 goals), Grenfell is part of an imposing front half for the third-placed Panthers, who have averaged a score of 160 in their past four games.
Grenfell - a former Goulburn Valley inter-league player - is among three re-signings the Panthers have announced for 2022.
Also re-committing to the club is the versatile Adam Ward.
"When I took on the job Wardy was the first to sign, so it's really pleasing that he'll be back next year," Jacobs said.
"He's a really important part of our make-up and has played some really good footy this year.
"He started midfield/half-forward for us and for the past four games has been brilliant off half-back. He reads the play really well, has beautiful skills and gives us a lot of drive."
And Jacobs has also signed on for a second season as coach next year.
The Panthers - who haven't won a flag since 1989 - have been the competition's big improvers this season.
With an 8-2 record - and a percentage of 263.0 - it's already the most wins the Panthers have had in a season since 2016.
"I've really enjoyed this year and at this point all the credit goes to the playing group," Jacobs said.
"They have really brought into our gamestyle from day one when we started in November.
"I can see that we can keep building on what we've done and that something really good could be around the corner."
Meanwhile, the LVFNL board will meet with its clubs on Monday night to discuss the format of the remainder of the season, which so far has only had 11 of its scheduled 15 rounds played due to the two Victorian lockdowns.
