Health minister Martin Foley said it should give people confidence the current restrictions and lockdown is working.

Mr Foley said two days ago just 6 per cent of new cases were fully isolated during their infectious period. That number is up to 73 per cent today.

"There are no community exposure sites for 16 of the 22 new cases," Mr Foley said. "Of the remaining six cases, exposure sites are reasonably low due to the current lockdown.

"(Having 73 per cent of cases fully isolated) means that contact tracers and restrictions are working as part of the public health team's toolkit to beat the virus and outbreak back step by step.

"It gives us confidence the process is working because millions of Victorians are backing it in and doing the right thing."

Businesses affected by the seven-day extension to Victoria's lockdown will share in an additional $282.2 million in state government financial support.

Industry support and recovery minister Martin Pakula said the new funding brings the total amount of funding to $484 million during the current 12-day lockdown and more than $1 billion since the May-June lockdown.

"We are thanking Victorian businesses for the incredible sacrifice they are making on behalf of the entire community," Mr Pakula said.

"The fact is we have seen transmission in the last week in pubs, restaurants, school, footy and the rugby - that's why it's important to get the outbreak under control (and) we need to get it right so businesses can get back to trading.

"On Monday and Tuesday, 86,000 businesses have automatically received a payment of $3000 through the Licensee Hospitality Fund or $2000 through the Business Costs Assistance Program."

Mr Pakula said businesses who did not apply for financial support during the May-June lockdown or were ineligible, are welcome to apply for the July lockdown support.

"Applications will be considered outside the automatic top-up process," he said.

Live performances will also receive support through the Impacted Public Events Support Program with grants up to $7000 available. Community sports clubs can also apply for $2000 to cover the cost of cancelled sporting events."

Chief health officer Brett Sutton said of the 22 new cases in Victoria today five were attached to Trinity Grammer, five to Ms Frankies, three to Young & Jackson, three to St Patricks in Murrumbeena, two to AAMI Park, two to Bacchus Marsh Grammar, one to a West Gate Tunnel worker and one to a family member of a northern suburbs case.

He said while 22 was a large number, having 16 of the cases fully isolated was encouraging.

"It might have been concerning for people who saw the number this morning but having 16 of 22 cases fully isolated is really good sign," he said. "It may even be within a couple days we see no new cases out in the community during their infectious period.

"It's a big number and it speaks to the Delta variant. Can you imagine what the number would have been if we hadn't locked down when we did."
