City of Greater Bendigo councillors have voted to issue a public notice about the potential sale at a meeting on Monday night.
Allstone Quarries wants to buy Alexandra Street and has been in talks with Victoria's Department of Land, Water, Environment and Planning about the potential sale.

The quarry and landscaping business would use the road to reconfigure the layout of its Eaglehawk retail site and help with the possible purchase of several blocks of nearby crown land.
The street only links to ASQ-owned land and council officers say maintaining public access offers "limited to no broader public benefit".
They believe that ASQ staff and customers are the only people who use the road.
Under the plan, unlicensed Crown land and freehold properties east of the ASQ site would still be able to be accessed via what would remain at Turners Road.
The council has voted to publicly advertise the plan complete with its position on the matter, with submissions from community members considered at a later meeting.
Council officers estimate they could save between $2000 and $5000 in maintenance costs every year, assuming the department and ASQ's plan comes to fruition.
Councillor Andrea Metcalf said it would help build an existing purchase, "which I am all for".
Councillor Julie Sloan said she went for a drive to the area on Monday.
"For me, it made sense for the discontinuation to happen, so I am all for it.
