The reigning premiers had hoped to bounce back against an in-form Marong at Malone Park on Saturday, in what was to be the Annette Grant Memorial Round, the two club's annual initiative to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.

But with community sport stopped as a result of Victoria's snap COVID-lockdown, clubs will wait on a decision from the league on whether the round is cancelled or goes ahead at a later date.

Mitiamo's first loss since round eight of 2019 season had no effect on their standing at the top of the league ladder, with the Superoos currently four points clear of Maiden Gully YCW, with Calivil United and Bridgewater a further four points back in third and fourth.

The five is rounded out by Marong, which snatched a four-point break over sixth-placed Pyramid Hill following a thrilling 30-28 victory over the Bulldogs last weekend.

Thomas paid full credit to Calivil United for its win, which made amends for a 16-goal loss to the Superoos earlier in the season.

"They were too good ... and sharper than us," she said.

"In all honesty, we needed something like that to give us a bit of a wake-up call.

"It doesn't hurt us for sure. They looked a lot better than us, but we only lost by four, but that's enough for us to say we have areas we need to improve in."

With uncertainty around when the season will resume and what shape it will take, Thomas was looking forward to a tough few weeks of matches, with a top-two clash against Maiden Gully YCW set for next weekend.

"We'll be looking to improve in the next few weeks, but you just don't know what to expect," she said.

"You learn a lot from the first time you play teams (each year), which is obviously what Calivil did with us.

"But it (the loss) will make us work a bit harder, so the next few games will be interesting."

Among the top four, Mitiamo still has to play Bridgewater a second time, with that game scheduled for August 14.

The cancellation of the weekend's matches denied both Calivil United and Bridgewater the chance to pull clear of the other in third spot, with the Demons and Mean Machine currently equal on 28 points.

At Marist College, second-placed Maiden Gully YCW was scheduled to play Pyramid Hill.

Scheduled July 24 draw: Bridgewater v Marong; Mitiamo v Maiden Gully YCW; Newbridge v Inglewood; Newbridge and Pyramid Hill byes.
