Bendigo Senior Secondary College principal Dale Pearce said the department of education was expecting remote learning to commence on Friday.
"They are cognisant of the fact it is going to be challenge for schools to gear up (for Friday)," Mr Pearce said.
"I am talking with leadership teams and staff (Thursday) evening to determine how to handle this. Learning opportunities will be available for student tomorrow and we will send advice out later this evening.

"As we have previously had, students who need to come to school and can't be supported at home, will be able to."
Mr Pearce said he advised students to prepare for remote learning ahead of the lockdown announcement.
"The real challenge for schools is the lateness of this advice and expectation that we will move to remote learning tomorrow," he said.
"Like a lot of schools, we could see it coming and were in touch with families and students this afternoon, advising students to take laptops and text books home in case we moved to remote learning.
"We hope students will be ready but teachers need more time to work up online classes. We have a lot of work to do this (Thursday) evening."
During the lockdown announcement, premier Daniel Andrews said he expected schools to have a difficult day tomorrow but that remote learning would be possible from Monday until the lockdown is lifted on Wednesday.
"Schools will do their very best tomorrow to provide support and as close to a regular curriculum and regular school day as possible," Mr Andrews said.
"With the benefit of the weekend and tomorrow, we will have two days of full remote learning on Monday and Tuesday and we will have our schools in place on Wednesday."
