Police have praised a bystander who provided first aid to a driver involved in a car crash in Kennington on Thursday afternoon.
A woman in her 70s is in hospital in a critical condition after her car hit a tree along St Aidan's Road about 4.15pm.
Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks said while it was too early to say for sure, police were investigating whether the driver suffered a medical episode moments before the crash.
"A passerby has witnessed the collision and got the driver out of the car and commenced CPR," Senior Sergeant Brooks said.
Other news:
"An absolutely awesome effort from a young lady (passerby) who was just going past doing her job.
"She came to give assistance, realised the driver wasn't breathing and basically called emergency services and started resuscitation very, very quickly.
"That was just absolutely fantastic from just a passerby."
