A PIVOTAL game in the fight for the double chance between Marong and Pyramid Hill highlights Saturday's round 13 of the Loddon Valley league season.
The Panthers (7-2) and Bulldogs (6-3) are locked in a four-way battle with reigning premier Mitiamo (9-0) and Bridgewater (8-1) for the three double chances up for grabs in this year's finals series.
For Marong, a victory on Saturday at Pyramid Hill would be huge for the Panthers' hopes of their first top-three finish since they last made the grand final in 2004.
A win would move the Panthers two games, plus percentage, clear inside the top three in what's a season where there may only be six rounds left to play dependent on whether rounds 10 and 11 that have been missed as a result of the three-week lockdown standstill will be reinstated later in the year.
A decision regarding the length of the home and away season and finals structure has been deferred until July 26.
Conversely for Pyramid Hill, win at home where the Bulldogs are always a tough proposition and they will draw level with Marong on 28 points and keep themselves right in the frame for the double chance.
The two sides have already played one drama-packed game this season when their round four encounter had to be cut short with four minutes remaining after Pyramid Hill full-back Dylan Morison was hurt in a marking contest, with an ambulance and paramedics required to attend. The Panthers won the game by three points after overcoming a 13-point deficit at half-time.
Both teams have made two changes for the big clash, with the Bulldogs bringing in Tom Brennan and Ashton Dye for Nathan Catherwood and Matt Klein-Breteler, while Kyle Manley and Aron Morrish are in for Marong in place of Nathan Walsh and Dylan Cuttriss.
* Saturday's games - Inglewood v Bears Lagoon-Serpentine, Bridgewater v Newbridge, Mitiamo v Calivil United, Pyramid Hill v Marong. Maiden Gully YCW bye.
