The eyes of the Bendigo golf community were glued to the television in the early hours of Monday morning as Lucas Herbert secured victory at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.
There were a few nervous moments as Herbert fought all the way to the end, especially from his parents Meredith and Lyndon.
"We're stoked and very excited for his win after leading all the way, it's unbelievable," Meredith said.
"Not so good for our nerves," Meredith laughed. "But it was amazing to see him do it."
After his putt on the 18th went in the hole, the festivities were underway at the Herbert household.
"There were some late celebratory drinks and thank goodness we have modern technology Face Time which made it all easier to speak to him," Meredith.
"He was very elated."
Lyndon was most impressed with his son's ability to maintain composure on the final stretch.
"Some of those shots he made last night, it was amazing to watch him get out of tough spots," he said.
"Overall he also beat high quality golfers who were playing, such as Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood."
Above all Meredith and Lyndon were thrilled with the endless support for Lucas from the Bendigo golf community.
"We've been inundated with messages after the win," Meredith said.
"We just love the support from everyone around Bendigo and especially Shane Muir from Neangar Park, his local sponsor who has been behind him right from the start."
Neangar Park president Phil DeAraugo said there was massive support for Herbert right across the central Victorian golf community.
"We're all so proud of him," DeAraugo said.
"So many members were up late last night watching and we're all happy to see him take a second win and also have another start in the British Open.
"His recent performances over in the USA have really sharpened his game and made him a complete golfer.
"The best thing was seeing him scramble well to save par after a couple wayward drivers.
"His putting was superb."
