It is one of the iconic moments of Australian domestic one-day cricket – the day Steve Waugh hit the Mercantile Mutual Cup sign in 1995.Playing against Western Australia at the WACA, Waugh smashed a six down the ground into a sign next to the sightscreen, earning himself $140,000 in one shot. From this week, some Bendigo cricketers will have the same opportunity, but instead of winning a small fortune, they’ll get $100 worth of burgers from Grill’d.The burger company will position six signs around the ground for tonight’s Twenty20 match between Bendigo United and Eaglehawk at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington. If any batsman hits the sign on the full they will receive a voucher to the value of $100.Grill’d owner Richard Nash hopes to extend the offer to his club, Sandhurst, where he plays in the third XI.Although they have played well in two-day and one-day games, BUCCs is yet to win in this season’s Twenty20 action. The Redbacks’ task will not be easy against the in-form Borough.Tonight’s play at Bendigo United includes the club’s Chrismas party. Each junior who wears his or her red BUCCs shirt will receive a free sausage and soft drink. The BUCC and Eaglehawk match will be broadcast live on 101.5 Fresh FM.
