The Bendigo teenager has declined offers to play in the NBL in Australia and several US-based college scholarships to sign with Ignite in the G-League in America.

The G-League is the NBA's development league, with Ignite based in Walnut Creek in California and is coached by former NBA player Brian Shaw.

"I feel that this is the best pathway for me to get to my ultimate goal; the NBA," 18-year-old Daniels told ESPN.

"It has every resource I need in really good development, a great coaching staff and great competition to go against every day."

Daniels is currently based in Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport.

The son of Bendigo Braves great Ricky Daniels will represent Australia at next month's world under-19 championships before moving to California later this year for the 2021-22 G-League season.

Daniels is regarded as a possible first round draft pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

"I know that with my work ethic in getting in the gym extra hours is going to give me the best chance at getting drafted,'' Daniels told ESPN.

"I'm going to do everything I can to get drafted and get drafted early."

The athletic point guard enhanced his NBA draft prospects by producing a stunning performance in his Boomers debut against New Zealand in February.

Daniels scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field to go with six steals, four assists and three rebounds in just over 25 minutes on court.

"It has been a lifetime goal of mine to play for the Boomers and represent my country at the highest level," Daniels said last month.

"When I got that opportunity I wasn't going to let it slip. I wanted to grab it with both hands and give it my best crack and, fortunately, I had a good game that will, hopefully, give me more opportunities to represent my country."

Daniels was last month named Basketball Victoria's 2020 Junior Male Athlete of the Year.
