Unveiling the project Friday morning to parents, residents and community members, Grade 6 student Lola Edwards said she was proud of the accomplishments of her fellow classmates.
The students, also known as the 'Green Team', created a community garden on the school's residential block for everyone to enjoy.
"We have learned so much about planning and designing things that other people can enjoy," Lola said.
"It has been a great experience."
OASIS, sustainability and environment teacher Matt Butcher helped the students create the garden.
He said the space lends itself perfectly to linking the community with the school.
"The 'gateway' to our creek track that surrounds our property is always used by our broader community and this is another way to get families out and enjoy fresh air, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables," he said.
"This will bring the various cultures that Strathfieldsaye pride themselves with, back together post COVID."
Mr Butcher said the students' vision for this space is to have raised garden beds that surround a play space for younger children.
"Fruit trees that line the fences where the fruit can be used as a healthy alternative in our school canteen," he said.
"A stage that supports local talent to thrive and an area for students during the day to sit and learn about the space.
"But also families can sit in this area and picnic on weekends and interact with other members in their community. With time and financial backing, we are hoping that a Wood FIred Pizza oven might fit this space perfectly."
Mr Butcher said with the current fence taken down, the area can be open to monthly Farmers Markets for the whole community to come together and share in locally grown produce and supporting farmers in this current COVID climate.
"Water tanks and Solar Panels at the back of the property will be designed to integrate students' learning focuses in class,' he said.
"Our garden designer, Stephen Read, has dedicated his time to assisting the students with their ideas and will continue to help to make this dream become a reality."
