* Australia's troubled coronavirus vaccine rollout has hit another roadblock after medical experts recommended raising the AstraZeneca age limit to 60.

* AstraZeneca is now the preferred vaccine for people over 60 with Pfizer recommended for anyone under that age.

* The expert immunisation panel ATAGI recommended the change because of extremely rare but serious blood clots that have claimed two lives of people in their 50s.

* Health Minister Greg Hunt insists the nation remains on track to offer all Australians over 16 a jab by the end of the year.

* Deputy Labor leader Richard Marles told parliament the prime minister bet the house on AstraZeneca and now the rollout was in complete disarray.

* West Australians aged 30 to 39 will be sent to the back of the coronavirus vaccine queue but the state government has promised existing appointments will be honoured.

* A coronavirus outbreak in Sydney's eastern suburbs has grown to three cases after a woman was exposed to the virus at a cafe.

* Additionally, a man in his 40s has tested positive in the Baulkham Hills area, in Sydney's northwest, but authorities warn it could be a false positive or an old case.

* A Victorian nurse who tested positive for COVID-19 while treating infected patients also worked shifts at a second Melbourne hospital, potentially exposing dozens of healthcare workers to the virus.

* Victoria's testing commander Jeroen Weimar described it as an "operational error" and said he was "very unhappy" about the situation.

* Victoria recorded no new locally acquired coronavirus cases, ahead of a further easing of restrictions across Melbourne and the regions on Friday.

* Queensland will enforce a new border pass system as the state warns residents to reconsider travel to Sydney, while keeping restrictions on Melbourne arrivals.

SPORT:

* Melbourne City will have to travel to Sydney to play their home semi-final against Macarthur FC after the A-League opted to relocate the game to allow fans to attend, rather than hold it behind closed doors.

* There have been 6,219,330 doses administered in the national COVID-19 vaccination rollout up to Wednesday, including 136,010 in the previous 24 hours.

* Of the total, 3,745,532 have been administered by the Commonwealth (an increase of 73,886 in the previous 24 hours).

* 3,336,667 have been issued in primary care (+75,944) and 408,865 in aged and disability facilities (-2,058 due to data reconciliation).

* 2,473,798 have been administered by the states and territories, including 62,124 in the previous 24 hours.

* 850,363 have been administered in Victoria (+18,507), 631,896 in NSW (+16,425), 391,602 in Queensland (+14,293), 227,823 in Western Australia (+4449), 165,493 in South Australia (+4192), 90,293 in Tasmania (+1444), 67,978 in the ACT (+1189) and 48,350 in the NT (+1625).

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Australia reported two new local coronavirus cases on Thursday, all in NSW. There were nine new overseas-acquired cases in hotel quarantine: six in Queensland, and one each in Victoria, NSW and SA.

* The national death toll is 910: Victoria 820, NSW 56, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 7, SA 4, ACT 3 (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).

GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Cases: at least 177,043,000.

* Deaths: at least 3,833,000.

* Vaccine doses administered: at least 2,444,368,000.
