The man who cannot be named for legal reasons came to the attention of security staff at the University of Technology Sydney after clinical acupuncture students complained.

UTS security manager Gabriel Karanastasis told the District Court on Thursday that this man regularly participated in an internet forum dedicated to saving the traditional Chinese medical course.

UTS former dean of science Dianne Jolley has been accused of sending herself and colleagues 19 menacing letters that were faked to gain "emotional and physical" support for closing down this course.

The 51-year-old orchestrated the scam after failing to gain initial backing from the board for ending the least financially viable course in the science faculty, the Crown says.

She has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges relating to the fake letters she allegedly sent between 2019 and 2020.

Some 16 charges are for conveying information likely to make a person fear for their safety, and three for sending a letter with the intention of inducing a false belief that it would endanger someone's safety.

An additional charge for causing financial disadvantage by deception relates to UTS spending more than $127,000 in security measures to protect her.

A few years prior a man was "asking for only young Asian girls to treat him," Mr Karanastasis said "of the disturbing behaviour" that occurred in the acupuncture clinic.

His name was given to detectives investigating Jolley's alleged harassment, and after September 2019 about five CCTV cameras were installed in or close to her work office.

But the professor is accused of all the threatening notes including one found at her home reading: "I know where you work, I know where you live, I know what you wear and your smell".

In September 2019 Jolly found clothes that had been hanging outside her home slashed and cut up with an accompanying note on her car window, the jury was told.

In the same month, Henrique Walsh was working as another security person at the university when he came across an "alarming" letter containing her underpants.

Mr Walsh was unaware the underpants had been stolen from her house but it raised his concerns for the professor's safety, he said on Wednesday.

Jolley was arrested in November 2019 and her phone calls were subsequently intercepted, including one to her assistant.

"Two letters were sent by me ... I should have seen a psychologist ... now they are accusing me of everything, vandalism, all these sorts of things," she is recorded saying, crown prosecutor Roger Kimball earlier told the court.

In another call to her husband, Jolley says "the worst thing that is going to happen is that I'll get lumped with everything".
