The 14-year-old isn't letting her age be a barrier and she's eager to get to work on Saturday.

"I am looking forward to playing with the girls," Martin said.

She has been playing for seven years but the opportunity to represent Bendigo has opened the door to her teammates' world of experience.

At a lead-up training session Martin was able to learn from them and has refined her pitching technique which she will test on the mound this Saturday in the team's first match against Alfredton.

Bendigo Baseball Association's 10-player squad will then play a second match where they will combine with Alfedton to take on Bellarine.

BBA women's squad playing-team manager Landy Mills said the team included a strong mixture of experience and youth.

"Some of the girls hadn't played before and started from scratch, but they have shown they're committed and are ready to get out there," Mills said.

Mills' years of experience playing baseball and softball has been shared with some of the BBA's up and coming stars.

"Having such experience myself, it's great to have this opportunity to share what I know with the next generation of players," she said.

"Now our plan is to get out there to achieve individual goals as well as our team goal.

"We're really looking forward to getting over to Ballarat and playing against like-minded people who also love baseball."

Mills was elated the development of the team had promoted the growth of women's baseball within the BBA.

"We're all about having an inclusive environment where we learn and simply have fun together," she said.

Mills' husband Ken is the club's head coach who believes the creation of the squad is a step in the right direction for building women's baseball.

"What a way to promote women's baseball in Bendigo," he said.

"We're really looking forward to playing a few games to see where we are at but also to see how the teams from across Victoria are developing.

"This is a strong step forward in encouraging women to be involved in a sport they will love playing."

Several of the squad members currently play for the Strathfieldsaye Dodgers division three team, as well as junior rising stars.

It's a big week for the BBA as its holding a very special annual memorial round this weekend.

The community will band together on Sunday for one of the most important rounds on the calendar, the annual Matty34 Memorial Round.

The round is held in memory of former Scots baseballer Matty who tragically died in 2013 from an asthma attack.
