HISTORIC images of Bendigo are up for auction as part of what has been billed as one of Australia's "most significant photographic collections".

Lloyds Auctions is overseeing the sale of the The Rose Stereograph Company Collection, which dates back to 1880 and comprises more than 100,000 items.
The collection includes images from places across central Victoria including Castlemaine, Maryborough and Macedon.
In Bendigo, iconic landmarks like Alexandra Fountain, Rosalind Park and the White Hills Botanic Gardens to name but a few.
Some images include landmarks that no longer exist.
They are part of a wider collection that includes glass negatives of events that changed the course of Australian and world history, Lloyds chief operations officer Lee Hames said.
"We believe this to be a world first, to offer these tangible original glass plates which rival any modern photographic resolution", he said.
Noteworthy photographs include the Gallipoli landings, Ned and Dan Kelly's armour (taken at trial in 1880), The Duke and Duchess of York with their daughter Elizabeth Alexandra Mary and Phar Lap winning the 1930 Melbourne Cup.
The Rose Stereograph Company was founded in 1880 by George Rose and Herbert Cutts, in the early 20th Century.
The pair formed a lifetime working partnership and strong personal friendship. Assisted by George's two sons, Herbert George and Walter, and later Herbert's son, Neil Cutts.
