A time of 29.22 minutes was a 64-second personal best and followed his sixth placing in the 21.1km half-marathon in Launceston a year earlier.
Reid's coach and long-time athlete Brady Threlfall put in another great performance at Launceston's Running Festival.
At age 33, Threlfall proved he is far from slowing down as he clocked a personal best of 29.48 to be 11th in Sunday's 10km showdown.
A sprint finish determined the second to fifth placings of the C5 Pro-Solutions backed race which drew 505 starters.
South Australia's Isaac Heyne surged clear of the pack to win in 29.03.
In a frantic sprint to the line, Dan Canala was next best in 29.20 from Kieren Tall, 29.21; Liam Boudin and Archie Reid, both 29.22 and separated by hundredths of a second.
"It was a great race," Reid said.
"The pressure was right on in the last 500 metres.
'To be fifth overall and first under-20 are results I am rapt with," Reid said.
Although based in Moama, Reid and Threlfall both live in Echuca.
Earlier in the week there were doubts they would be able to race in Tasmania because of COVID travel restrictions.
"We prepared as if we would be able to race and were rapt we could compete again," Reid said.
For both it will be another big week of training on the roads around Echuca-Moama.
"We usually do two hard sessions a week and a medium.
"Next week is likely to be medium where the intensity of our running is not as high, and distances we run are less."
Competitors for South Bendigo and Bendigo Harriers respectively, Reid and Threlfall have played key roles in Bendigo Region leading division two in Athletics Victoria's XCR '21 series.
Both are keen to keep running for Bendigo Bats across the cross-country season.
Next event on the AV calendar is a 12km contest on June 26 at Cruden Farm.
A week later and both will be on the Gold Coast competing in the half-marathon on July 3.
As two of Bendigo region's best at road running, Reid and Threlfall have Ballarat's 15km on July 31, the Lakeside 10 on August 15, Burnley half-marathon on September 5, and The Tan Relays on September 18 in their sights.
