Fourteen traders will launch the Lyttle Eat Street precinct festival in Lyttleton Terrace on Saturday in a bid to create a "street food vibe" in the area.

It is the first in a winter-long series, Slow Smoking Saturdays, to entice more people to visit the area on weekends to enjoy unique dishes and drinks.

The Lyttle Eat Street launch will serve up slow cooked and flame-grilled flavours together with Asian street food, barbecue demonstrations, "try before you buy" tastings and live music.

City of Greater Bendigo mayor Jen Alden welcomed the festival, especially given the city's status as a City of Gastronomy.

"Street food precincts bring a new vibrancy and draw people to the city centre in fun and engaging ways and importantly help support our local businesses during this difficult time, so shop local and enjoy Lyttle Eat Street," she said.

Those attending the launch will need to comply with the latest COVID-safe and social distancing requirements, check in using the Services QR app or alternative means like pen and paper, show ID if requested and wear a mask when necessary.

The road will not be closed for the event and those attending are advised to stay on the footpaths.

The festival will take place on Saturday, June 12 from 8.30am to 2.30pm.
