Bendigo Health Director of Nursing and Midwifery for Women's and Children's Services Shelley Hardingham said the boom was certainly a massive increase for this time of year.
"We have seen a decent rate of increase in births up 30 percent on last year," she said.
In a usual month, Ms Hardingham said the hospital usually averaged around 130-145 babies.
"However, over the past three months, we have consecutively increased in activity," she said.
"To see 185 babies born in May, it is the most babies delivered at Bendigo Health ever in a single month."
Ms Hardingham said the boom was being felt statewide.
"Both regional and metro services have seen a rise in birth rates, some are calling it the Covid baby boom," she said.
"I am sure that may be one of the facts, but I am sure there are many more.

"We believe these numbers will continue and stay with us until September at least."
Last week, the first babies were born at Castlemaine Health under the new Midwifery Group Practice model of care.
Ms Hardingham congratulated everyone who welcomed a baby and thanked the hardworking staff who assisted in the deliveries.
More news:
"We have an incredibly fortunate to have a workforce full of nurses, midwives, obstetric and pediatric staff who have gone above and beyond and certainly in the past few months," she said.
"They are so dedicated as well as the community who have been incredibly patience through the whole pandemic experience, with visitor restrictions it has been incredibly difficult on both families and also staff.
"A big thankyou for your patience and it's always a pleasure to work with women during their pregnancy journey and we love what we do."
