The 35-year-old man applied for bail in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court last week after he was charged with assault.
The court heard the man had been living in a shed at the back of his parents' property.

On the evening of May 26, a verbal argument allegedly started between the accused and his mother.
Police alleged the man picked up a bedside table and struck the woman to her arm.
The accused then allegedly struck her again to the back before picking up a television and trying to throw it at her.
The court heard the man's father entered the shed yelling and pushed the accused back in an attempt to restrain him.
The parents then fled to their home and the man allegedly followed carrying a stick.
Police alleged the man threw rocks at the house and damaged items in the shed, causing a total of about $6000 in damage.
Officers arrived at the house a short time later and the man was arrested.
The court heard the man told police his mother was a "manipulative piece of sh**". He told officers he smashed up the house because he knew she loved the property.
The man also told police he felt "horrible" about the alleged incident and he knew his parents were scared of him.
The defence lawyer told the court the man had recently disclosed allegations that he had been abused by his parents.
The lawyer said the man was not planning to return to his parents' house and he had sought mental health support from his doctor.
The lawyer told the court the man had consented to an intervention order where his parents were listed as the protected persons.
The lawyer said those intervention orders would reduce any of the prosecution's concerns about the man's bail application.
The magistrate agreed the risk was reduced and the man was released on bail. He is due to return to the Bendigo Magistrates' Court in July.
