JUNIOR sport is a chance of resuming for outdoor competitions this weekend, but senior players will have to wait for their return to competition.
Restrictions are proposed to be eased from Thursday night in regional Victoria, while the state's lockdown has been extended for Melbourne for at least another week.
Among the proposed easing of regional restrictions from 11.59pm Thursday is the resumption of junior outdoor sport, while only training will be permitted for senior competition.
However, the easing of regional restrictions are still to be officially ratified by the state government.
"With no community transmission in regional Victoria this week, regional restrictions are proposed to begin easing from 11.59pm tomorrow night. We'll use the next 24 hours to continue tracing and testing and confirm that this change can go ahead," acting premier James Merlino said on Wednesday.
There was no community sport played in the state last weekend due to lockdown 4.0 restrictions.
AFL Central Victoria region manager Carol Cathcart said the Bendigo Junior Football League would resume this weekend if given the green light by the state government and AFL Victoria.
"If we are given the go-ahead by the state government and we have the protocols from AFL Victoria, then the BJFL will play this weekend," Cathcart said.

The Bendigo Amateur Soccer League would also resume its junior season if restrictions permit.
"Certainly, that's our intention. We had some direction from Football Victoria earlier in the week to update us on what game day should look like and our responsibilities as clubs," BASL president Aaron Shooter said.
"Hopefully, the clubs have all had the chance to digest that and will have time to implement any changes that may be required that are different to what was already happening before."
And both the Golden City and Bendigo Strathdale netball associations would resume their seasons if cleared by the state government and Netball Victoria to do so.
"We're ticking all the boxes... we as a committee have all done infection control training and we've just hired a COVID Safety Officer," BSNA president Heather Abbdy said.
"We're making sure we're compliant across every level and the COVID Safety Officer is there to help our volunteers because there is a huge expectation on them.
"Hopefully, games can get going again from this Friday night because it's all about the kids... we want them back out on the court after they've already missed 12 months.
"If we can be as diligent and compliant as possible, hopefully, we can get through the rest of the year."

While the GCNA hopes to be back on court at West Bendigo this weekend, it won't be hosting Netball Victoria's Association Championships northern zone qualifying tournament on Sunday, with it postponed.
Following last weekend's cancellation of competition, GCNA president Rachel Thomsen said the association was prepared to pick up from where it left off on Saturday provided the lifting of regional restrictions allow.
"We're certainly prepared for anything that may be required such as extra cleaning," Thomsen said.
"We'll always follow the government and Netball Victoria's requirements when it comes to COVID for the safety of everybody."
With a return of senior competition ruled out this weekend, it means leagues will now have to make fixture decisions moving forward based around two weekends of lost matches.
Bendigo Football-Netball League manager Cameron Tomlins said there had yet to be a decision made on if junior sport could be played this weekend whether the league would fixture under-18 football and 17-under netball games.
"At this stage it's not something we've had the chance to discuss at a league level," Tomlins said.
"We certainly know it's an option and we had some good discussion with our clubs last night about what the next couple of weeks could hold, but we needed some clarification before we could make any definitive decisions."
The Loddon Valley league hadn't discussed the possibility of playing junior-only football and netball matches this weekend, while Heathcote District league chairman Peter Cole indicated it wouldn't be considered in the HDFNL.
