A premiership player with Glenelg in the SANFL in 2019, Nicholson played his first game for the Superoos on Saturday, but a knee injury put him on the sidelines before half-time.
"Carl moved from Adelaide to Queensland at the start of the year and he's good mates with our other Queensland boys (Lee Dale and Dylan Mutu),'' Superoos' co-coach Andy Grant said of Nicholson, who played more than 100 senior games in the SANFL.
"He decided to come down with them and have a kick, but he got injured on Saturday.
"He took a mark and felt a pop in his knee. He's confident it's not serious, but we'll have to wait and see.
"We're hoping it's only a matter of a couple of weeks. He looks like a high quality player.
"He's the type of player that could play anywhere. He's fit, strong and versatile."
Grant said Nicholson's inclusion gave the Superoos the most talented list he's had as coach, including the 2019 premiership squad.
"Our best side this year is better than our grand final side in 2019, but the problem is our injury list is growing,'' Grant said.
"Pyramid Hill is in the same boat and Bridgewater it seems has a few out as well. It could be a matter of who has the fittest list at finals time.
"We had Dougie Thomas come back from a hamstring on Saturday and he got through okay.
"Lachy Woodward (quad) and Ben Bacon (groin) got injured on Saturday and Ash Benbow (hamstring) is still probably another six weeks away because his hamstring injury was a serious one.
"Ryan Weliington did a hamstring against MGYCW and is out for five weeks. We can't afford to lose too many more.
"We've got the bye this week which helps and we'll have to wait and see what sort of side we put together for the game against Bridgewater the week after."
Should Bridgewater defeat Pyramid Hill this Saturday the Mean Machine-Superoos clash on June 5 will determine top spot at the halfway mark of the season.
"We've set up our season pretty well,'' Grant said.
"The Bridgey game is important, but we won't be taking any risks (with the injured players).
"We'll still put together a side that will give Bridgey a good run.
"We have the bye, then Bridgey and then the league bye for the Queen's Birthday Weekend... so there is some time for the players to get themselves right."
