Bendigo businesses will tighten their coronavirus compliance for Melbourne visitors as new restrictions come in place for the state's capital region.

The greater Melbourne region have new coronavirus restrictions enforced from 6pm tonight including mandatory face masks unless an exemption applies.
Victorians who live in greater Melbourne and travel to regional Victoria can do so, but the restrictions travel with them.

Bendigo Art Gallery marketing and audience engagement manager Mark Orlandi said the new restrictions would change operations at the gallery for metropolitan visitors.
"Visitors from Melbourne to our region still have to adhere to the Melbourne restrictions and we will be asking them to wear a mask when they are here," he said.
"We probably go overboard but that's better for the health and safety of our staff and visitors.

"We do as much as we can to ensure people are signing in via the app. With the majority of people coming in already ticket-holders, we have their details but we still ask people to go on and sign in. We also ask when they come through if they have checked in or if they can't, we get their details.
"So far, our visitors have been amazing, gallery people are incredible and follow the restrictions."
Under the coronavirus restrictions coming into force at 6pm on Tuesday, Victorians visiting regional Victoria from Melbourne need to wear a face mask when indoors, even when outside metropolitan Melbourne, unless an exemption applies.
