Billy-Jo Salter, 23, has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing death and a series of other offences.
His plea was entered at the end of a committal hearing that opened in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Ray Meadows and his guide dog Gerry died while out for a walk along the Calder Highway at Wedderburn on the morning of June 2, 2019.
They were struck near the intersection of Wedderburn Junction Road.
More news:
The only witness to appear on Tuesday morning was the police informant, Heath Thomas from the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
Defence lawyer David Gibson questioned the detective about the lights Mr Meadows routinely wore while walking.
The informant confirmed that police were able to recover one light in working order from the scene.
Mr Gibson also questioned several witnesses on Monday about the lights.
Prosecutors argue that Mr Meadows should have been clearly visible to a driver on that stretch of road for 15 seconds before impact.
Other news:
The court heard a trial would likely take five to seven days, but not be heard for approximately two years.
The case is listed for a directions hearing in the County Court in Melbourne on June 15.
