Eli Young, 41, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court this week where he pleaded guilty to seven charges including unlawful assault and driving while disqualified.

The court heard on June 27, 2019, Young went to a Bendigo courier service to collect a package.

When a worker asked for his identification, Young became verbally abusive and yelled at the victim.

The staff member moved to a back room and locked themselves inside, but Young followed them and kicked at the door.

Young eventually left the site and the victim contacted police. Young later told officers he had been annoyed that the worker asked for his ID.

The court heard on March 1 last year, police intercepted Young while he was driving in the Kangaroo Flat area.

Checks showed his licence had been disqualified for a period of four years. A preliminary drug test showed there was an illicit substance in his system.

The court heard Young refused a second oral fluid test. His car was impounded for 30 days.

Four days later, police searched a property in White Hills. Young was sleeping on the couch when officers arrived.

They found a black plastic case near him, which contained two syringes and 1.2 grams of methamphetamine.

Young was arrested and taken to the Bendigo Police Station for questioning. He admitted to owning the black case.

Defence lawyer Robert Timms said Young was employed full time at a concreting company, with references submitted to the court stating Young was a "reliable" and "dedicated" worker.

Mr Timms said a fine would be a more appropriate sentence because a community corrections order would hinder Young's ability to work.

Magistrate Rodney Higgins convicted and fined Young $2000. His licence was also cancelled and he was disqualified from driving for four years.

Mr Higgins warned Young that he had been given a chance.

"If you come back for refusing a PBT or for drugs, you'll go to jail," the magistrate said. "It's up to you to decide."
