Emergency services attended the Mount Macedon Road site after reports a car had crashed into a tree about 8.45pm.
A male driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the crash and are yet to determine the exact circumstances surrounding it.
They will prepare a report for the coroner.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the crash or with dash cam footage to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
