The 40-year-old man was sentenced in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to 24 charges including recklessly causing serious injury and driving offences.
The court heard on June 23 last year, the man was at home with his partner when a verbal argument started.
The man slapped the woman to the face with an open hand before continuing the argument.
Some time later, the man got on top of the woman while she was lying down on a bed.
The woman kneed him in the stomach to try and get him off of her. The man punched her in the face with a closed fist, resulting in a cut to her face.
The woman was able to break away from the man and run to the kitchen. She contacted police while he continued to argue with her.
The man left before officers arrived at the property. The woman went to hospital for her injuries.
The man also admitted to a dangerous driving charge after he crashed into a truck in Rochester on May 11.
The court heard there was a 40km/h zone set up on the Northern Highway because of roadworks.
About 6.40am, the man was driving a Holden Commodore along the highway at about 90kmh to 100km/h.
The car collided with the back of a truck and flipped. The commodore came to a stop on its roof, but the man and his passenger were able to get out of the car.

The pair collected their belongings and spoke to some witnesses before leaving the scene.
Police located the man six hours later about 31 kilometres from the crash site.
He was taken to hospital for his injuries and a blood test showed there was methamphetamine in his system.
Magistrate Megan Aumair noted the man's considerable prior criminal history and said the only available sentence was a term of imprisonment.
But Ms Aumair said she wanted to give the man the opportunity of a community corrections order once released.
The man was sentenced to six months in jail, with 25 days reckoned as already served.
He was ordered to complete a 12-month community corrections order, with drug and mental health treatment.
The man's licence was cancelled and he was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was also fined $2000.
Ms Aumair said if the man did not plead guilty, he would have been jailed for 15 months with a non-parole period of nine months.
