With rural road accidents seemingly ever-increasing, the Mount Alexander Shire's response is to increase speeds, rather than make roads safer.

Take the widening of the intersection at the Muckleford-Guildford Road and the Pyrenees Highway.
Or the ridiculous 100 km/h speed limit through Green Gully.
With a litany of other examples, it's time the council took safety seriously, rather than acquiescing to VicRoads' desire for faster and faster speeds.

Accommodation solutions
Having received an email from Craig Niemann in relation to mine and a number of other residents' concerns about tent city which has occurred at Huntly Lions Park. Surprisingly he asked if I had a solution.
Well Craig, not being on your wage or position, I would have thought that by allowing the closure of Central City Caravan Park, Dower Park Caravan Park and removing campers from the showgrounds you would have realised this would only make it harder for these vulnerable people to find accommodation. With winter coming fast, maybe you could use vacant council buildings to house them of a night?

Welfare warriors
After reading Thursday's Bendigo Addy, I note the welfare warriors are still as noisy as ever. Even though the unemployment rate is 5-6 per cent, over 90,000 people have moved off welfare since JobKeeper ended, despite the dire predictions of Labor politicians and the welfare industry.
Job vacancies advertised are higher now than before this pandemic started, employers are desperate to fill those vacancies. We have higher fruit/veg prices because crops rotted for lack of pickers, hospitality venues are unable to operate at full capacity because of a lack of workers. But we hear no encouragement from the welfare industry for the unemployed to get out and get a job and contribute to the society they are so dependent on.
Yes there are some unfortunate cases but, as an employer pointed out, many have no desire to work after spending so much time on JobSeeker and JobKeeper.
Meanwhile, those welfare warriors judging by their words just want to maintain the status quo or even expand it. Being such a growth industry those employed by it want to see it expanded to preserve their jobs.

Our money and we deserve better
The meaning of "Liberal": favoring progress, reform, individual freedom, in social and political matters. Nothing in this meaning even remotely indicates it favours rorts of any kind, or victimisation of any sector of our country, but this alleged rorting still goes on.
Another federal government member has been accused of doling taxpayers' money out in alleged "dodgy" circumstances. How many more of these alleged rorts will we tolerate as a nation, carefully orchestrated by this government? If ever a federal ICAC was required it is now - not tomorrow, but now. And also until Australians vote for some perceived honesty and integrity, we will continue to be subjected to multiple meals of pork-barreling of handouts most of which are not the original recommendations of the body concerned, marginalising communities that were recommended initially.
Don't look for honesty when there is none. Don't look for Integrity when there is none. And don't bother looking for a federal ICAC inquiry, because there won't be one, but that is exactly what is required to clean up this continued alleged manipulation of taxpayers' funds, hardwired into our political process. It is not the LNP's money, it is all Australians money, and should be delivered as such. It is an absolute disgrace.
