Played at the Bendigo Croquet Club in Barnard Street, players from the Castlemaine, Golden Square and Eaglehawk croquet clubs also took part in the celebration.
"Croquet has been called the nicest of games played by people who at times have the nastiest of intentions. However, intentions were decidedly friendly and pleasantly competitive on Saturday as players enjoyed a return to inter-club play after a pandemic pause," Bendigo Croquet Club member Jillian Kerr said on Wednesday.
"Bendigo president Peter Martyn and Hetty Veldman, the recently-retired regional director, both spoke of the importance of friendship, as well as competition in the playing of croquet.
"This was clearly evident on Saturday, both with numbers in attendance and the excellent camaraderie.
"It was a wonderful day and fantastic to celebrate World Croquet Day in Bendigo."
CROQUET IN A NUTSHELL:
Croquet can be played with two, four or six players.
The object is to hit your croquet balls through the course of six hoops in sequence with a mallet and finish by hitting them against the centre peg.
The side which completes the course first with both balls wins.
