The bill introduced to the state parliament on Tuesday would allow school principals to issue school community safety orders to parents or carers who engage in harmful, threatening or abusive behaviour.
The new law would also give schools the power to ban parents who use social media for threatening or abusive communication.
Schools would have the right to stop parents from entering their grounds.
While speaking in Bendigo Tuesday morning, Australian Education Union Victorian Branch President Meredith Peace said she was supportive of the bill.
"No one in their profession or community deserves to go to work and to be exposed to harmful, abusive or threatening behaviour," she said.
"We do have instances of actual violence sometimes on school premises so this is a really important issue to address.
"We shouldn't have this type of behaviour and we wouldn't accept it at the supermarket, we don't accept it for our ambulance officers so we shouldn't accept that our school staff could be subjected to this type of behaviour."
Banned parents would still be able to communicate with the school about their children's education and make arrangements about attendance.
Under the legislation, if a parent does not comply with a safety order the matter can be taken to court.
A parent can also apply to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal if they disagree with an internal review of an order.
Epsom Primary School principal Lyn Coulter said any support backing teachers and principals was a "good thing" for the industry.
