A small group of cast and crew for We Will Rock You met its writer, comedian Ben Elton, before his performance in Bendigo.
We Will Rock You director Paul Watson said it was always special to get first hand experience with the creator of a work.
"One of the ... biggest highlights for me when I'm working with overseas creatives is you're getting to meet the people who are doing it," Mr Watson said.
"You're getting to meet the people who are making the stories, making the theatre."
Mr Watson urged people to book tickets to see We Will Rock You, saying theatre companies had put their necks on the line booking performances before venues were allowed 100 per cent capacity.
Actors set to play lead roles said they were excited to meet the writer named on their script.
Taylah Chisholm and Liam Brown have been cast as Scaramouche and Galileo Figaro who together bring back rock music to a dystopian future, in which it has been forgotten.
Both said they hoped to get a better understanding of the script and the show through their experience.
Other news:
Mr Elton said it was a matter of pride to see amateur societies perform his work, because it was where he himself had started performing.
He said the themes of We Will Rock You meant it was inspiring to see community and youth groups perform the work.
"The theme of the show is discovering the Freddie inside us all ...our own individual mojo, our spirit of rock, so it's lovely when local companies are doing it," he said.
"Brian and I always take a big interest ... because we think it belongs to everybody. It's marvelous that it's now a real standard of community theatre.
"I'm so pleased that We Will Rock You has joined that great collection of musicals that community theatres do."
We Will Rock You is playing at Ulumbarra Theatre from July 8 to 11. Ticket information is available online at: bit.ly/3v8TKsB
