SANDHURST'S Joel Murphy has marked his first season as Dragons' captain by winning the club's Noel Turner Memorial Award for 2020-21.

The gun opening batsman polled 75 votes for a season in which he was the BDCA's leading run-scorer.

Murphy made over 100 runs more than any other player in the home and away season, finishing with 697 at an average of 46.4.

Murphy's fine season included two centuries - 112 against Bendigo in round five and 111 against Golden Square in round eight.

In his return to the Dragons, all-rounder Dylan Gibson (405 runs, 17 wickets) finished second with 65 votes, while recruit Anthony McMahon (272 runs, 16 wickets) rounded out the top three on 36 votes.

The Dragons finished seventh in the first XI with five wins, 10 losses and three draws in what was a season of entirely one-day games.
