As a category three council, City of Greater Bendigo councillors are entitled to an allowance within the range of $13,123 to $31,444 per year. The mayor is entitled to an allowance of up to $100,434.
Councils are required to set their allowances by June 30, 2021, within the category three range.
Council budget 2021-22:
Council must advertise its decision for public comment for 28 days before making its final report.
Staff recommended the council publicly advertise its intention to set the mayoral allowance at the maximum of $100,434, and the councillor allowance at $31,444, both plus 9.5 per cent superannuation.
This would be in line with previous years, according to the agenda report.
Councillors voted for motion unanimously at a meeting on Monday night. Councillor Andrea Metcalf said the time councillors were required to put in was significant, for her certainly more than a full time position.
Cr Metcalf said she was comfortable allowances were set at an appropriate level.
