The 20-year-old man was sentenced in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to 10 charges including intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, and unlawful assault.
The court heard on May 30 last year, the man assaulted his former partner in her home.

He pushed the woman onto a bed and used a closed fist to hit her to the head multiple times. During the assault, the man bit the left side of the victim's face.
He also placed his hands around the woman's neck to strangle her while she tried to fight him off.
The woman's two young children were in the house at the time of the assault.
After about five minutes, the woman was able to break free of the man and call a friend for help.
The 20-year-old man also pleaded guilty to an incident on October 13, where he pushed his new pregnant partner after a verbal argument in a Bendigo street.
He also admitted to headbutting the same woman during another assault on January 17 this year.

During the plea hearing, the man's lawyer Madeleine Mein told the court the man had a traumatic childhood and had seen his own father commit family violence against his mother.
Ms Mein said the man had also shown traits of borderline personality disorder.
Magistrate Patrick Southey said he took into account those factors, the man's young age, and his guilty plea.
But Mr Southey described the offending as "disgraceful" and said the court needed to send a message to the community.
"No one respects men who beat up women and I'm sure you don't respect yourself for what you've done," the magistrate said.
The 20-year-old was jailed for six months, with 161 days reckoned as already served.
He will need to complete an 18-month community corrections order upon his release. The order will include supervision, drug and alcohol counselling, and anger management programs.
