Australia Post's poll of eligible Huntly households returned an unfavourable result, with fewer than 50 per cent of respondents voting for mail to be delivered directly to their homes.
More than 1000 residents will need to keep retrieving their post from the Huntly post office, or rent a PO Box.
"We will continue to offer Huntly residents the ability to receive their mail and parcels through a reduced rate Post Office Box at the Huntly Licensed Post Office," an Australia Post spokesperson said.

Thirty-nine per cent of residents voted in favour of changing to a street mail delivery service.
"Australia Post takes requests to change mail delivery arrangements seriously and strives to apply a fair and consistent approach," the Australia Post spokesperson said.
The poll was conducted from February 22 - March 19, with forms delivered directly to eligible households.
"A mail poll provides eligible households with the opportunity to have their say on a proposed change to the way mail is delivered so we can determine if the change has majority support," the Australia Post spokesperson said.
It is the second unsuccessful poll since September 2017.
Polls should not be conducted more than once every two years, according to Australia Post's group mail delivery poll policy.

Australia Post categorises poll responses in one of two ways - 'yes' or 'nil response' - meaning poll recipients who refrained from voting were automatically counted as 'no' votes.
This year's poll came in response to a petition, which has more than 600 signatures.
Kristy Harris, who launched the petition, believed street mail delivery was something expected when they moved into a community the size of Huntly.
Hundreds of new homes are planned for, and being built in, the suburb.
