The six-year-old gelding added to cup victories at Ararat, Terang, Boort and Wangaratta (at Shepparton) by taking out an action-packed $14,500 Mildura Trotters Cup at the City Oval Paceway.
No trotter has previously won five country cups in a Victorian season.
It was a history-making feat in many respects.
Well Defined had to overcome a 40-metre back mark to win a dramatic 2600m stand start.
In doing so, he became only the third horse to win the race off 40m.
The son of Majestic Son and Focus On Me conceded about 20m to Hatchback out in front with about 600m to travel, but was able to reel in the John Justice-trained five-year-old on the line to record a half-head victory.
Tormey, who has driven Well Defined in his past 12 races, praised the gelding's persistence.
"He stuck his head out in the end," she told Trots Vision post-race.
"He always makes me look good."
Tormey, who ended the night with a double after earlier steering home Alittlebitofmagic for her father, Charlton trainer John Tormey, said the cups had been some time in the making, with Well Defined putting the writing on the wall last year and then pouncing when the opportunity presented.
"During regional racing (last year) we put him in a few stands and he just went away so well," she said.
"He was racing against free-for-all class horses and not getting beaten very far.
"We knew that when the country cups came around they would really suit him.
"Unfortunately they didn't go ahead last year because of COVID. This year we knew he was going to do a really good job in the country cups."
A model of consistency, Well Defined has won five of 11 starts this year and been placed four times, with all his wins and placings coming in cups races.
Hargreaves, who has continued her stay at the top of the state trainers' premiership with 38 winners, declared Well Defined's Mildura win as 'all heart' and arguably the best of his cup successes.
"It was really exciting that one, it was unbelievable," she said.
"Ellen said he was just flat out, but he kept coming and coming - it was all heart.
"I was definitely confident going into the race, if he gets away well, 40m doesn't worry him, he always runs out the distance.
"But I thought (the stable-mate) Downunder Barkers would be the one to beat, but he galloped and that went out the window.
"I wasn't surprised he won, but at the same time he needed a big performance and a really good run."
Hargreaves said Well Defined would likely be spelled and would return later in the year for a crack at some more country cups, with Kilmore a definite target.
A great night for the stable included a win in the opening race with stable newcomer Rocknroll Rhylee, driven by Alex Ashwood, who also scored a double on Friday night.
Ashwood won the final race on the 10-event program aboard the Terry Gange-trained Parisian Ruler.
Lockwood South freelance driver Neil McCallum also experienced success, winning early in the night on the Brittany O'Brien-trained Wyattflynn.
