The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimated the municipality's population to be 119,980 as on June 30, 2020.
That was an increase of close to 1900 people over the previous 12 months, for a growth rate of 1.6 per cent.
That made Greater Bendigo the region's fastest growing municipality.
By comparison, the fastest growing municipalities in Melbourne's outer north-west and west have rates approaching 5 per cent, while some individual suburbs have grown their populations by more than a quarter over the past year.
Council officials have previously forecast they expect Greater Bendigo's population to reach 200,000 by 2050.
